Victim Advocates
Victim-Witness Assistance Advocates, within the Office of a Circuit Solicitor, help ensure that fair and compassionate treatment is given to victims and witnesses, reduce confusion by explaining the criminal justice process, prove information about services that are available, and make sure the needs of the victims and witnesses are met.
The SC Victims’ Bill of Rights is set forth in Article I, Section 24 of the SC Constitution, and the responsibilities of prosecuting agencies, including the Offices of Circuit Solicitor, as to victims of crime and witnesses involved in the criminal justice system are set forth in Article 15, Chapter 3, Title 16 of the 1976 SC Code of Laws. The South Carolina Commission on Prosecution (SCCPC) provides administrative and programmatic support as well as trainings to Victim-Witness Assistance Advocates within the Offices of Circuit Solicitor.
